), in Journal of Automation, Mobile Robotics & Intelligent Systems, explores the Simultaneous Localization and Mapping of a room, using a Lego Mindstorms NXT and a single ultrasonic sensor.
Once the map is constructed, the same robot, even after being removed from the environment (and placed back in without the knowledge of its location), is able to find out its location through the use of particle filter. The paper describes these concepts and the algorithms used in detail, and shows the robot used to achieve these results.
